Caution Statement

To the person who found a lost pet, Metro Pet Tracker urges you to use caution in identifying the rightful owner. This is of great importance as we live in a world where some have chosen to make their living deceitfully and illegally. Of those, there are some, known as the "Menaces Called Bunchers," who would claim an animal that was not theirs, then sell that animal for purposes of animal experimentation; for purposes of the sport of dog fighting (depending on the breed); for purposes of being used as lures in the training of fighting dogs; for purposes of ritual and/or malicious sacrifice, etc.

Metro Pet Tracker urges you, the good-hearted Samaritan, who found a wandering, lost dog or cat, to make use of the following procedures to assure their safe return home:

On entering a description of the found dog or cat, you will notice we allow for minimal description. This is to allow the claimant to provide the description in full of the pet they claim as theirs. Do not provide assistance.

When contacted by the claimant, ask for their veterinarian's name and phone number so that you can check on the validity of information. This will help dissuade any impostor from bothering you further.

When contacted by the claimant, and before allowing them to see or claim the dog or cat, ask for a current photograph of the animal, preferably with the owner in the photograph as well. This will also help to dissuade any impostor.

Insist upon delivering the cat or dog to the owner's home where...
Before allowing the owner to claim the cat or dog, carefully check the photograph, the owners identity - current photo identification (driver's license, etc.). Keep all information so that you can call and see how the little guy is doing.

And, finally, if the owner resists any or all of the above requests, remind them that you are going through this procedure for the ultimate safety of the animal and will not compromise.

When all the above procedures have been met, let your instincts kick into gear until you are absolutely certain that indeed the claimant is the owner. A trick to watch out for is the old trick of putting the scent of food in one's hand to get a favorable reaction. Most importantly, watch for the very first reactions of the dog or cat upon seeing the owner.

Metro Pet Tracker wishes you success and, please, let us know if we have been of any help to you. We also wish to remind you, we only offer our services online. If you wish to adopt a homeless, needy dog or cat, we suggest you go to your local shelter or rescue organization.
